We. Are. Awesome.
Kevin (the spouse), Fischer (the offspring), and I (Hi, I'm Karen.) live in the middle of nowhere, Michigan. Before offspring, I enjoyed shopping, drinking good wine and Starbucks. These days, Starbucks is a luxury and my mother's dog ate my Stuart Weitzmans'. Pinot and I have lost touch. Sanity comes into question on a daily basis. And as for my Fish, he is 4 and he is awesome. Fischer is a riot; he is the Eddie Murphy of toddlers. He is not lacking in social skills like many children with sensory disorders. Charismatic as they come, he has an uncanny ability to lead and make buddies. Not always appropriate and blissfully unaware of this factor, his mannerisms and language will never cease to amaze, which makes for some embarrassing situations.
Sensory issues aside, he is a normal tot. If you didn't know him, you might not even notice his SPD. Fish struggles daily with everyday life functions that most people take for granted; bathing, dressing, brushing teeth, common noises, crowds, disrupted routine and smells. His appetite for sensory-seeking is in perpetual overload and impulse control is often times nonexistent. He cannot stop himself from touching anything, albiet consequences.
This website provides insight into our crazy normal world of sensory smart living. I blog about things that other parents only think to themselves, so please don't be offended. I love my kid more than anything, but there are massive quantities of bloggers out there who discuss nothing but struggles and love for their child. I'm not really mentally unstable, and I'd never actually go off the deep end. Humor helps me cope.
